Seminar on Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development of the Yellow River Basin Held in Zhengzhou

From 12 to 14 August 2022, the Seminar on Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development of the Yellow River Basin was successfully held in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province. The Seminar was hosted by the Soil Environment Specialty Committee of the Soil Science Society of China and co-organized by the College of Resources & Environment, Henan Agricultural University (HAU) and related units. It was presided over by Prof. Peng Zhao, Dean of the College of Resources and Environment, HAU, and attracted a crowd of more than 300 experts, scholars and graduates from universities, research institutes and companies. 

With an aim of further protecting the Yellow River basin’s ecology and high-quality development, this Seminar arranged two plenary sessions, five parallel sessions and three graduate’ sessions during which participants presented their most recent research progress in the field of soil environment and discussed leading-edge research and bottleneck problems. The Yellow River basin has been earmarked as a national priority for ecological protection, given its fragile ecosystem and lack of water. In December 2021, the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress released a draft law titled the Yellow River Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China to enhance environmental protection in the basin.
