The 24th Chinese Young Soil Scientists & 19th Chinese Young Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Scientists Conference Held in Urumqi

From August 13 to 16, 2026, the 24th Chinese Young Soil Scientists & the 19th Chinese Young Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Scientists Conference was held in Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The conference brought together hundreds of young experts from universities and research institutes to discuss frontier advances and developments in soil health, plant nutrition and fertilizer science.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Xiaobing Zhou from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The welcome addresses were delivered by Prof. Wei Zhou, President of the Chinese Society of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Science, Prof. Jianwen Zou, SSSC Vice President and Prof. Yuanming Zhang from XIEG. Prof. Wei Zhou emphasized the central role of young researchers in driving technological innovation in soil and plant nutrition and in promoting green and high-quality agricultural development.
The conference featured over 20 keynote speakers, seven parallel sessions and three graduate sessions, where innovative research in areas such as cultivated land conservation, green fertilization, and efficient resource utilization was highlighted. The conference was the first of these to be held in Urumqi, which is located in the arid Northwest, thus highlighting the importance of arid zone ecological security. The conference addressed strategic challenges such as desertification and water management, and made full use of Xinjiang’s role in the Belt and Road Initiative. The event provided an effective platform for academic exchange, the stimulation of innovation from young scientists, and contributed to an improved agricultural quality and ecological protection in China.
