2024 Conference of SSSC Specialty Committee on Salt-affected Soils Held in Xinjiang

From August 14 to 17, 2024, the 2024 Conference of SSSC Specialty Committee on Salt-affected Soils was jointly organized by Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (XAAS), Key Laboratory of Saline-alkali Soil Improvement and Utilization (Saline-alkali land in arid and semi-arid regions), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Kashgar Experimental Station of the National Technical Innovation Center for Comprehensive Utilization of Saline-Alkali Land, and the Soil and Fertilizer Society of Xinjiang in Korla, a city in Xinjiang Uygur Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture. More than 500 attendees including experts, graduate students and company representatives.
Prof. Wanli Xu of the Institute of Soil and Fertilizer and Agricultural Sparing Water, XAAS, presided over the opening ceremony, and Prof. Xiaojing Liu, chair of the SSSC Specialty Committee on Salt-affected Soils, hosted the plenary session. The organizers arranged three sessions for attendees to deliberate on topics of “saline-alkali soils improvement and utilization”, “brackish water utilization”, and “salt-tolerant plants”, one for attendees from companies, and three for graduate students, and a field trip.
This conference serves as a catalyst for exchanging views and practices related to salt-affected soils, and plays an active role in promoting the development of saline agriculture, and safeguarding national food security.
