2023 Symposium of Soil Ecology Specialty Committee Hosted in Hangzhou

From October 20 to 22, 2023, the 2023 symposium of the SSSC Soil Ecology Specialty Committee was organized by the College of Environmental & Resource Sciences (CERS) of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, to demonstrate progress in soil ecology and related areas and to encourage academic exchange and cooperation. It received 400 attendees from universities, research institutes, public institutions and companies.

 

The opening ceremony was chaired by CERS Vice Dean Prof. Zhou Shi, and the welcome speeches were addressed by SSSC President Prof. Jiabao Zhang, Dr. Yu Liu, Director of the Third Division in the Department of Earth Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China and two leaders from Zhejiang University. Prof. Jiabao Zhang gave a systematic presentation about his report “Soil biodiversity & stability of soil ecological functions”. Professors from Wenzhou University, La Trobe University, University of Alberta, etc, shared information of soil health, ecological functions of soil fauna and their diversity and biocontrol of organic pollution in soil-plant systems.

 

During the symposium, more than 120 academic reports including 14 plenary reports were presented, nine sessions for experts and poster exhibition for young scientist and graduates.

 

Prof. Lingfei Hu from Zhejiang University hosted the closing ceremony and Prof. Hui Wang, Chair of the Soil Ecology Specialty Committee, summarized the function of symposium by highlighting its promotion to the development of soil ecology and agricultural health.
