Academic Symposium on Soil Chemistry and Environmental Health Held in Ningbo

From 23 to 25 September 2023, the academic symposium on soil chemistry and environmental health was hosted by the SSSC Soil Chemistry Specialty Committee and organized by the State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Treats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products (SKLASAP) with 520 attendees from universities, research institutes, companies and government units, including SSSC Vice Secretary-Generals Prof. Yongguan Zhu, Prof. Fangbai Li and Dr. Weidong Yan.

During the plenary session, Prof. Yongguan Zhu systematically introduced the relation between heavy metals pollution and bacterial pathogenicity. And 17 reports were presented by professors from different universities and institutes such as the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture CAS, Zhejiang University, ISSCAS, Huazhong Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University.

To promote communication and foster cooperation in soil chemistry, the symposium organized 4 sessions to discuss topics in “Plant-soil interface process & fertility increase”, “Soil components interactions & microbial ecology”, “Geochemical process of soil elements & soil health”, and “Soil pollution prevention and control & biological health”, 1 forum for young researchers and 4 forums for graduates.

On the closing ceremony, Prof. Yanzheng Gao, Chair of the Soil Chemistry Specialty Committee, summarized the symposium with two features: its attendees include researchers and young practitioners from comprehensive universities and its topics focus on integration among chemistry, biology and environmental science.
