2023 Symposium of Salt-affected Soils Specialty Committee Held in Cangzhou

From 18 to 21 September 2023, the 2023 symposium of SSSC Salt-affected Soils Specialty Committee was organized by the Center for Agricultural Resources Research of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, CAS in Cangzhou, a city in Hubei Province, with more than 300 attendees from universities, institutes and companies.


Prof. Xiaojing Liu, Chair of the Salt-affected Soils Specialty Committee, presided over the opening ceremony and shared his thought on the history, meaning, problems of salt-affected soils utilization, agronomic improvements in China, and other aspects. Professors from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of CAS, Ningxia University, ISSCAS, Research Institute for Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization, University of Karachi presented their reports in topics like salt-affected soils improvement, molecular breeding of salt-tolerant crops, and mapping of salt-affected soils.

 

The symposium organized 2 parallel sessions and 2 special sessions for graduates to showcase their latest research. A field trip was also arranged for attendees to visit the Nanpi Eco-agricultural Experimental Station, CAS, and Haixing Experimental Base in Salt-affected Soils Efficient Utilization.
