SSSA-SSSC Joint Webinar on Soils and Climate Change Held Online

On 23 February 2023, the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) and Soil Science Society of China (SSSC) held the joint webinar on soils and climate change online and invited 11 soil scientists to discuss global issues, attracting about 3,000 live viewers.

 

Prof. Fang Wang, Chair of International Collaboration Working Committee of SSSC, held the opening ceremony and Michael Thompson, President (elect) of SSSA, Prof. Xiaoyuan Yan, Vice President and Secretary General of SSSC, extended their welcome to invited experts and live viewers. Prof. Rattan Lal at Ohio State University, Prof. Xiaojuan Feng at Institute of Botany, CAS, Dr. Sabine Grunwald at University of Florida and Prof. Tida Ge at Ningbo University shared their latest researches in topics of “managing soils for adaptation and mitigation of anthropogenic climate change”, “molecular alterations of soils organic matter in alpine grasslands under warming”, “global assessment of soil carbon” and “characteristics of paddy soil: specifics in dynamics in organic carbon cycling”.

 

This free webinar on soils and climate change is one in a series of collaborative efforts by the two societies to strengthen the transfer of soil science knowledge and experience as the planet deals with issues of food security, climate change, and environmental management.
