2025 Conference of SSSC Specialty Committee on Salt-affected Soils & Symposium on Salt-affected Land Comprehensive Utilization and Productivity Improvement Held in Xinjiang

From August 19 to 20, 2025, the Annual Conference of SSSC Specialty Committee on Salt-affected Soils and Symposium on Salt-affected Land Comprehensive Utilization and Productivity Improvement took place in Shihezi, Xinjiang province. Con-organized by Shihezi University, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other organizations, it convened over 300 experts from 50+ universities and research institutes.

The conference featured 12 keynote reports, one of which was delivered by Prof. Feihu Yin focusing on the remediation practices for saline soils in Xinjiang. Discussions covered salt-tolerant crop breeding, soil amendments, and salt water use. After the conference, participants visited the demonstration zones for the remediation of severely and moderately saline-alkali land in Shihezi. Prof. Fenghua Zhang introduced his team’s achievements in water-saving, salt control, carbon enhancement, and fertility improvement in moderately to severely saline-alkali land. The participants had a deeper understanding of comprehensive saline-alkali land management in Xinjiang. This conference significantly contributed to promoting collaboration among universities, research institutes, and enterprises, as well as advancing the comprehensive utilization and productivity enhancement of saline-alkali land in arid regions.
