2025 Joint Symposium of SSSC Specialty Committee on Soil Genetic Classification and Soil Geography and Soil Remote Sensing and Information Concluded in Shenyang

From August 14 to 16, 2025, the 2025 Joint Symposium of the SSSC Specialty Committee on Soil Genetic Classification and Soil Geography and Soil Remote Sensing and Information was organized by Shenyang Agricultural University (SAU) in Liaoning, Shenyang province, and attracted more than 300 participants.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Hongtao Zou, Dean of SAU College of Land and Environment. Six keynote speakers, including Prof. Ganlin Zhang from the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Axing Zhu from Nanjing Normal University and Prof. Fengrong Zhang from China Agricultural University, presented reports on topics like the third national soil census, digital soil mapping, and black soil protection.
The symposium featured six parallel sessions covering soil genesis, classification, digital mapping, remote sensing, soil functionality and land-use impacts. Over 120 presentations were delivered by experts and graduate students. Prof. Yongcun Zhao concluded the symposium, emphasizing its role in advancing talent cultivation, integrating AI into soil science, and supporting national development.
This symposium significantly strengthened academic exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration in soil spatiotemporal evolution and sustainable utilization.
